That’s not my house, but that red car does belong to me. Oh, Google Street View, how I love you. But it seems others in my area do not. The intrepid Kathy T reports:
Over at Google, they’re catching some heat over privacy issues for
the "Street View" function offered for over 50 cities nationwide. The Tennessean today told of people who felt their privacy was being violated from the Street View,
Map Street Views has raised privacy concerns," said Hedy Weinberg,
director of the ACLU of Tennessee, "but those concerns have to be
balanced against the First Amendment right to take pictures from a
public street."
Look, people. Photography is not a crime. You have no reasonable expectation of privacy if you appear on public streets. That’s not my opinion, that’s a fact. People have been harassed and even arrested right here in the United States for taking pictures. But the fact is, we have the right to take pictures, and even post them on public websites. Google maps is no different.
