Every time March comes along, I start getting the urge to start shopping for spring and summer clothes. We always get a couple of warm days around here that trigger this urge.
In reality, there is still a lot of cold weather to come where I live. Do I really want to overcrowd our closets with clothing for two seasons? Yet, what if we have a string of really warm days and all of last season’s clothes are too small? Maybe it is just spring fever that is the cause of such irrational thinking!
In a way, it does make sense to start shopping now. The stores always have really good sales when the clothes for a new season arrive on their racks. Once spring and summer are actually here, the clothes will be more expensive. Although, it would be just my luck to buy a bunch of clothes for my boys now and have all of them go through huge growth spurts between now and then!
I would never consider buying summer clothes for myself at this point. You know how it is. There is that infamous "winter padding" that still needs to be shed!
When do you start buying clothes for the new season? Am I jumping the gun here or is the way a lot of moms think around this time?

I'm way ahead of you! I buy a lot of used clothing from the resale/consignment shops for my daughter and they've starting putting out their shorts, skirts and summer dresses weeks ago. I've already bought her an entire wardrobe for summer. Then I noticed yesterday that Target had moved shorts and summer shirts to the sale rack! And Old Navy had swimsuits on sale! Needless to say, I got her a suit, more shirts and shorts for the season. But, like you, I haven't bought anything for myself yet because of the 'padding' and because It's a little trickier to buy stuff when you have to consider your 'play' clothes as well as work clothes for summer. I like to see what the new sytles and colors are – I like to see what all my options are and then work from there. The way I look at is this: my daughter, being 1, looks good in everything. Not so for me, so I need to take the time to be more selective about what I choose to wear.

I'm with you…I wore sandals and capris to work yesterday and froze! The day before it was 70 degrees! I'm so ready for spring!
