Grammar is serious business in my house. I admit, I’m not the perfect grammarian- I love commas and colloquialism too much to have perfect grammar. However, there are some things that are my grammar pet peeves.
Using apostrophes as an "s" warning system is one of the things the drives me insane. Fortunately, there is a blog that validates me- Apostrophe Abuse. My other major pet peeve is people who abuse exclamation points. I have yet to find a blog that details this particular phenomenon yet, but I could probably start one simply based on the notes home from HelloKitty’s teacher.
Now, let me be clear: I think her teacher is wonderful. She’s young, energetic, and fun. HelloKitty adores her. The notes home are killing me, however. They all go something like this:
Please have your child read the vocabulary words each night! Your child doesn’t need to know how to spell vocabulary words! They will be tested as sight recognition!! We will test on vocabulary words on Friday!!!
Oh, man. Like I said before, I love commas and probably overuse them. But seriously, are three exclamation points ever necessary? Maybe if it’s some major announcement like, "I just hit the lottery for 62 million bucks!!!" but not, "We will test on vocabulary words on Friday!!!"
What are your grammar pet peeves? Does it drive you crazy when your kid’s teacher commits those grave grammar sins? Please tell me I’m not alone.

There, their, and they're. The apostrophe s thing drives me nuts, too. I'm also guilty of using too many exclamation points!
