Is Your Child Smarter Than You?

Smart_child My oldest son is eight years old. He is smarter than me. He is also smarter than his father. In fact, he is smarter than the whole planet! Do you have one of these?

My son JD has always acted older than his age. When he was 3, he was actually 13. Now that he is 8, he is 18 or so it has always seemed. When he was very young, people used to always say how cute he was "just like a little man". My husband and I would smile and nod politely and then give each other a look to say "if they only knew"!

Don’t get me wrong, JD is a really cool little boy. He just thinks he is right about everything! He will argue with us about every single thing we say. If we say the sky is blue, we are wrong. I am surprised that he has not challenged the fact that my name is Kelly!

Luckily, he does not do this in school. He saves it for his parents, family members and friends. It drives me completely crazy! We have spoken about it with him numerous times. We have told him that people do not like to be argued with and that it could affect friendships and relationships throughout his life. Of course, according to him we are wrong.

I never expected to have a "teenager" so soon. I think I would deal with it better if he was an actual teenager because this behavior is somewhat expected at that age. When it comes from a young child (starting from the time he learned to talk), it is extremely exasperating.

He really has a great personality aside from the arguing and the "I am right" syndrome. I just need to figure out how to break him of this horrible habit. I really am concerned about it turning people off to him especially when he is older. I would love to hear any suggestions or stories of similar behavior. Is your child smarter than you?????
