I found several things that are post-worthy today online, and rather than clog up your feed readers, I’m going to combine them in one nice, neat post. I know, I’m so thoughtful. No need to thank me.
Shak & Jill’s Kathy T and Strollerderby remind us that this is fire prevention week. Do you have a plan for your family in case your house catches fire? Make sure you take some time to make a plan and discuss it with the entire family. This is important stuff, and the kids will enjoy helping to make the plan.
Shannon over at Rocks In My Dryer is regretting a rather drastic haircut. I remember when HelloKitty was 4 and in preschool, her friends made fun of her super-long hair. She cried and begged to get a haircut. She wanted to cut it very short, but I wouldn’t let her. I knew she would hate it. We finally compromised on letting her cut it to shoulder length and she cried and said she missed her long, long hair anyway. I think we all have had haircut regrets- I know I have. So, Shannon, HK and I are over here feeling your pain, girl. I bet you look cute, no matter how bad you feel about it.
What is NaBloPoMo? My girl Shauna has a link. I participated last year and missed the daily monthly posting by just one day. My best pal Heather was in town and I just didn’t get the post posted in time. Will I be participating this year? Probably, but it’s hard to decide where to blog every day of the entire month of November. I mean, here? Shakyard? Shakhammer? Home-Ec101? I’m thinking my personal blog, perhaps. That way I’m not tied to one specific subject and can post a total cop-out and my 4 readers won’t mind.
I. Hate. Racism. White Trash Moms writes about a case of racism that breaks my heart. When I was a kid, we lived for a very hard year and a half in a town in Southern Indiana where the guidance counselor told us on our first day of school, "You’ll be pleasantly surprised to find there are no black children that go to this school. We did have a black family that lived here, but their house burned down and they moved to Evansville." Needless to say, it was a miserable year and a half and we moved quickly back to Indianapolis for some diversity.
That’s all I have for ya today, Shak-ers! Have a great week!

Now I truly know we lived in the same area of southern Indiana. My town was about 15 miles from yours and I heard the same thing from my fellow students. I was more than appalled. I'm just grateful that they aren't representative of ALL the people of southern Indy.
