When I was a kid, my parents didn’t have any close friends. My mom once told me that my dad was her best friend, and that was enough. Fortunately for them, they had loads of family nearby, so it was about as good as friends.
I don’t have the luxury of having tons of family nearby, so I have to do a lot of relying on my friends. My friends help me celebrate my victories, mourn my losses, and will go to bat for me when I need someone. I’m not normally mushy like this, but I love my friends, they have helped me get through it all.
So, where do you go to make friends when you’re all grown up? I have found them at the library, the playground, the internet, and work. Most of my best friends I have met through blogging, which seems odd, but is not really that strange, considering we all pour a lot of our hearts and souls into our blogging.
What’s awesome is, when I have friends with kids, our kids all play together. I hope that someday my kids will be able to say they "grew up with" various friends- I know a lot of people who have had friends they "grew up with", but since I moved so much, I have very little of that in my life. Thanks to the internet, even if we move, our kids can still stay in touch.
