    Budgeting That Vacation

St. Michael's CathedralStephanie at Stop the Ride! offers some great tips on how to do your vacation on a budget. This is extremely timely advice, as we are just now beginning to plan our summer vacation.

    My favorite tip is this:

    We went to Restaurant.com
and checked the offerings in the area. If you aren’t familiar with
this, you buy gift certificates for restaurants at a discounted price.
A typical offering is a $25 certificate for $10. We also had a coupon
code. I’m not sure it is still valid, but the code is HOP, if you want
    to try.

We picked up two certificates, with a total value of
$50, for $12. One certificate probably won’t cover a meal for the
family, but it will certainly help. We can also buy more certificates
once we are there if we need to.

I didn’t know about this! What a great way to save money on eating out. This is generally one of my biggest vacation expenses. Go check out her post for more great tips so you can save money on your vacation.

    Thanks for the link love!

One tip I would add now is that I wish we would have waited until we were there to buy the gift certificates. We bought them ahead b/c of the coupon code.

We never were able to use one we bought. We can exchange it, but it is a hassle. Oh well live and learn!

I'll be posting our "grand totals" sometime this week!
