One of the hardest days for me as a mom was watching my 13 year old son move out of the room that he shared with his brother. I am sure that the hardest day for my 11 year old son was that day also. My two boys, 2 years apart, have always been so close and really have never fought much. They both enjoyed sharing a room together and never complained. It seems that just overnight my oldest wanted his independence. I realized that I am not the only mom to go through this when I read the blog When Siblings Share A Bedroom at Momsquawk………..
"When we built our home, we picked a plan with 3 bedrooms. We had two
children. It was all we needed. Despite the fact that my girls could
have their own rooms, they chose to be together. They loved it.
The birth of my son fit in well. He would have the third bedroom.
And all has been well for two years. But now, as my 12 year old
daughter approaches the teenage years, I am hearing the grumblings of
wanting “their own rooms”. And I can totally sympathize and understand.
So, after much soul searching and deciding what I was willing to
give up, we have decided to turn the laundry room/craft room, which is
off the master bedroom, into my son’s room, and the girls will have the
other two rooms."
My son who now is left alone, not by choice, is still coping with the fact that his brother chose to move out. Many nights I wake up to find that he has made a bed on the floor next to me and for right now I am OK with that. One day very soon that will stop and he also will enjoy being in his room alone.
